Patent Associate Attorney Opening
Laubscher & Fretwell, P.C., a long-established, locally owned (Annapolis, MD) intellectual property law firm with clients throughout the United States and worldwide, is seeking a full-time associate attorney to play a critical role in helping our clients protect their innovations and creations in a range of patent, trademark, and copyright matters. Qualifications:
- J.D from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Registration to practice before U.S. Patent and Trademark Office preferred; qualified to be registered required
- Bachelor’s degree in technical subject recognized by United States Patent and Trademark Office
- 2 or more years of patent prosecution preferred
- Working knowledge of U.S. and foreign patent, trademark and copyright procedures, rules and regulations
- Familiarity with litigation, licensing, and counsel related to intellectual property law matters
- Strong attention to detail, proofreading skills, and analytical abilities
- Ability to effectively communicate with attorneys, staff and clients (large corporations, small businesses, and individuals who are local, national and international), to identify needs and implement solutions
- Ability to work independently, adapt to change and balance competing demands; experienced with time management in high-volume or deadline driven environments
Position Responsibilities:
- Prepare, file, and prosecute trademark and patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- Manage prosecution of foreign trademark and patent applications
- Conduct legal research, analysis, clearance searches and provide registrability or patentability opinions
- Monitor client intellectual property portfolios and manage deadlines
- Provide outside intellectual property law counsel to businesses
- Prepare cease-and-desist letters and manage disputes
Benefits:
- Compensation commensurate with education, skill and experience; expected range of $100,000 – 150,000.
